Best hatchet I've owned
Reviews: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet
I've owned my Fiskars hatchet for around five years currently. I failed to resharpen it till once four years of mistreatment it tenting and chopping down bushes and little trees around my house. solely got boring once it went into the sandy and rocky dirt a number of dozen times whereas chopping near the bottom. it's straightforward to place a really sharp edge back thereon with a sharpening stone inside one or two of minutes.

Sharp blade, tough handle. Sheath could be smaller
Reviews: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet
The blade comes sharp, and it lasts for a protracted time. Once it's uninteresting it sharpens simply with my stones or Fiskars 7861 implement.
I was a trifle skeptical regarding the hollow fiber-whatever handle, however I've done varied things as well as hammer on the handle (don't try this, i am in no approach recommending such a stupid thing), and that i haven't broken it however.

Reviews: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet
The Fiskars X7 hatchet arrived these days and that i should say, i used to be expecting it to be my "fall back" hatchet.
I commonly use a chilly Steel tomahawk for hiking/camping wants, however, that has all modified.
This hatchet isn't solely nearly unbreakable, however comes with a period of time pledge.

I was talented associate X7 for my birthday and ab initio wasn't certain if it might be any smart. i have been a loyal Wetterlings life Hatchet fan and have conjointly used Gransfors Bruks and did not assume that this artificial Star Wars wanting factor would hold a candle to them. Boy was I wrong! I've had this hatchet currently for concerning half dozen months and have used it to cut everything from dead pine and fir to laborious sugar maple and it's performed fantastically. Let American state break down my expertise with this hatchet....

sharp, lightweight
Reviews: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet
The hatchet is extraordinarily sharp and extremely light-weight. The handy carry cowl is well thought out, and it will be smart to ascertain however long that swivel-latch lasts. (Feels sort of a friction cam that will or might not loosen.) Carry loop on the handle makes it terribly handy to hold on a nail on the garage, up out of the approach.

Just the right size and weight for backpacking!
Reviews: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet
I purchased this because I was looking for a lightweight yet effective tool to cut down some larger pieces of wood while backpacking in the allegheny national forest. It performed with flying colors. Light weight and well balanced. It made short work of 3 to 4 inch branches as well as being very effective at some of the larger stuff. Every ounce counts when your carrying everything you need while backpacking and this was just the right size for medium duty work. I also purchased the sharpener made for this tool but have not used it yet. Hope it keeps the blade like new without removing to much of the special anti stick coating applied to the cutting head. Purchase both for a great value and get free super saver shipping like I did.

Cuts wood like butta!
Reviews: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet
I have an old oak handle hatchet that I inherited from my Dad. I love it for the memories, but it doesn't cut or chop all that well. I have a Fiskars wood splitting ax, so I thought I would try the hatchet. It's a good price, so what the heck! Wow, was I happily surprised. I used the new hatchet to split some kindling for our woodstove, and it slices through board ends like butta. I could hardly even tell I was hitting anything, and the wood would split with no effort. Really good tool. Well made, good ergonomics, and nice included wall mount. I'm a Fiskars fan for sure.

Awesome! Great Balance, Weight, Everything! Except one thing
Reviews: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet
So as I said this thing is fantastic. It's got a great handle, the orange bit has a rubberized feel to it, not squishy, it is also hollow. That gives it a good weight, and it's head heavy, which makes it hit nice and hard.

Just as nice as their axes
Reviews: Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet
his is a great little hatchet. The construction is very good, and it feels great in your hand.
And, it is very sharp. I use a wet stone to keep mine sharp - not a file. that's how sharp it is. I do wish it held an edge a little better. One cannot use this to get after tree / shrub roots without having to do some work to get it sharp again. Being fairly ignorant about the different grades/properties of steel, I have to assume there is a trade off for weight, or some other factor. However, that is the only thing keeping me from giving it a 5.
